History

The Langholm distillery was founded in 1765 by the Esk River in Dumfries (Lowlands). According to Alfred Barnard, it was in the hands of the then-owner, Mr. Arthur Connell and his family for more than 60 years. The plant lay by Skipper's Bridge, Langholm, Dumfries (55° 08’ 31” N, 02° 59’ 18” W). The distillery was run as a malt whisky distillery; according to the text, "The make is pure Malt", and about 46,000 gallons of spirit were produced annually. According to history, Birch Whisky was also mentioned, which his father taught him the secret of making. The motive power of the distillery was solely water, and the water was channeled through a channel cut in the rock. Stills: 1 wash and 2 spirit stills. The owners were unknown (n.a.). The distillery ceased production in 1917 and was dismantled in 1926 and partially demolished in 1929. The region belonged to Dumfriesshire, Lowlands.
