History
Benmore Distillery was located in Campbeltown, Scotland, and was established in 1868 by Bulloch, Loading & Co. It was the largest facility in Campbeltown, handling everything from malting to storage. In 1920, Benmore was taken over together with the Lochruan, Lochindaal and Dallas Dhu distilleries, and around the same time the Benmore Blend was created. Production ceased in 1927, and in 1929 ownership came under Distillers Company Limited (DCL). The buildings were sold in 1936 and have since been used as a bus garage; much of the original structure has been preserved.
Production
Water for mashing: The waters of a Scottish loch were specified, but later mashing was carried out with water from a well on the site instead of Crosshill Loch. The annual production was around 125,000 gallons of malt whisky. Benmore was the largest facility in Campbeltown, handling everything from malting to storage.
Products
Benmore Distillery produced malt whisky, and around 1920 the Benmore Blend was created, which is believed to contain malts from Lochruan, Lochindaal and Dallas Dhu.
