History
Carpathian Single Malt is Romania's first single malt, and over the years a family has distilled and refined masterful maturation to create Carpathian Single Malt Whisky. The malted barley is produced 100% in Romania, and the water comes from the Sub-Carpathian mountains. The whiskey is distilled using the traditional Scottish double-distillation method and finished in Kentucky bourbon casks, with a finish in wine and cognac casks, giving a unique character.
Our Story describes the launch of a single malt that is matured in Romanian wine casks — a world premiere. The Alexandrion Group is behind the production through its wine division, and their vineyards in Dealu Mare provide their own casks from the wine experiments. The vineyards lie in the Dealu Mare region, at latitude 45 degrees, an area described as Bordeaux-like in climate. In 2021, Hyperion Fetească Neagră 2016 was awarded Double Gold at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. The group thus becomes one of the few to use casks from their own wines to align the aging process.
