History

Chopin is Poland's last family-owned vodka company. The Dorda family runs the distillery with a strong focus on being from field to bottle and on elevating the way people see and taste vodka. The distillery was founded in 1896, and Chopin is described as a brand with long traditions and an approach that has endured for more than a century. In 1993, Chopin launched the world's first super-premium vodka and helped create the luxury vodka category. After taking over the business in 2003, the distillery was restored and bottling and packaging facilities modernized, without altering the fundamental craft. We follow small batches and meticulous attention to detail to ensure a quality that stands above the crowd. From field to bottle and close relationships with farmers are central to our approach, and many of the techniques are drawn from traditions and from our own soil conditions.

Production / Manufacturing

Our ingredients are potatoes, rye, and wheat, and all are grown within 20 miles of the distillery near Krzesk in eastern Poland. The water is drawn directly from an artesian well beneath our grounds. The potatoes are grown in the spring and harvested around mid-September; they are high in starch. The potatoes are washed, steam-cooked and transformed into a mash, after which our signature yeast is added and the fermentation lasts two weeks. The vodka is distilled in our original copper still, built in 1896 and one of the oldest stills remaining in Poland. Thereafter the spirit is transferred to barrels where it rests for two weeks to develop its flavor, after which it is bottled on-site and shipped out around the world.

Philosophy

We believe that vodka is not odorless or tasteless; it is a craft and something that can be enjoyed and paired with food, culture, and climate. As Poland’s last family-owned vodka brand, we are proud to preserve vodka’s heritage, challenge misunderstandings about vodka, and work closely with our farmers to bring new varieties and collaborations into focus.
