Glenora Distillery Resume
History
Glenora Distillery, located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, was founded in 1990 and is known as North America's first single malt whisky distillery. The company was founded by Bruce Jardine, who wanted to create a whisky that combined traditional Scottish production with the unique terroir of Nova Scotia. The first whisky, Glen Breton Rare, was released in 2000.
Production
Glen Breton whisky is produced using three simple ingredients: barley, yeast and water. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and ages the whisky in oak casks, including the first single malts aged in ice wine casks. The distillery has an annual production that typically requires at least 10 years of aging.
