History
The distillery is located in High River, Alberta. Sustainability has always been important for the company. David Walker, Co-Owner, says that Highwood Distillers is taking the lead in Canada by bringing ecoSPIRITS’ innovative circular distribution model to the region. Canada is a strategic market with a whisky heritage; the country has two centuries of whisky production and more than 300 craft distilleries. To emphasize the commitment, Highwood has installed ecoPLANT in Alberta for Western Canada and plans to expand to additional major cities in the country.
Production / Manufacturing
The collaboration with ecoSPIRITS inaugurates a new era of sustainability and innovation, including a low-waste, low-emission packaging system. Each 4.5-liter ecoTote container is a fully recyclable, refillable glass vessel that replaces the usual six-bottle carton. EcoSPIRITS’ closed-loop system significantly reduces packaging waste. The ecoPLANT in Highwood Distillers’ facilities serves Western Canada, primarily British Columbia and Alberta, and there are plans to implement additional ecoPLANTs in the country.
