History
The history begins in 1855 with Edward Dyer, who established a brewery in Kasauli and brought modern beer to India to quench thirst in a hot climate. He later expanded to Simla, Solan, Lucknow and Mandalay (Burma). Another pioneer, H.G. Meakin from Burton-on-Trent, founded Meakin & Co. Ltd. and bought the older breweries in Simla and Kasauli as well as built several others. The two companies continued independently until after the First World War, after which they merged to form Dyer Meakin & Co. Ltd. During both world wars they supplied beer to soldiers and pressed prices. After the war the plants in Solan, Kasauli and Lucknow were replaced by modern automated facilities. In 1935, when Burma was separated from India, the company renamed Dyer Meakin Breweries Ltd. from Dyer Meakin & Co. Ltd., and the Burma assets were separated. Thereafter it changed its name to Mohan Meakin Breweries Ltd. in 1966, and from 1980 it became Mohan Meakin Ltd., and as such the company is known today as Mohan Meakin Limited. In 1949 Padamshree NN Mohan established near Ghaziabad (Mohan Nagar) an industrial area with a brewery, distillery, malt houses, glass factory, ice, breakfast cereal factory, fruit/juice factories, malt extraction plants and other units. The group's profile was thereafter strongly diversified into fruit juice, breakfast cereal products, mineral water and glass production. Under the leadership of Padamshree Brig. (Dr.) Kapil Mohan, this diversification was continued and the group became known as Mohan Meakin Limited, with three distilleries in India and two breweries and a turnover of over INR 400 crores.

After World War II, production was modernized with new automated facilities.
