The Bommen Brothers
About the distillery
The Bommen Brothers in Njurunda is a family-run destination where brewery, distillery, shop, and bakery go hand in hand. Here you can enjoy lunch, buy goods to take home, and follow the smell of the distillate from the casks in the storage building. The combination of local roots, reused premises, and craft production makes the place interesting for whisky lovers who want to see a small North Swedish production environment in operation.
History
The story begins with the house and workshop that the grandfather built in 1952. In 1974, the next generation took over, and in 2013 the current family arrived and started to convert and reuse the premises. What used to be a car workshop location has since been transformed into a place with brewery, distillery, bakery, and visitor facilities. The narrative is clearly family-oriented, but it is also rooted in childhood friends and the desire to use what they have around them. The result is a place where production is not separated from the guests’ experience, but instead is part of the visit itself.
Raw materials and production
The production brings several crafts together under the same roof. For the craft brewery, water from Ljungan is used together with grain, yeast, and hops. The distillery makes distillate, and in the storage building the distillate rests on casks. The text emphasizes that the premises and furnishings are adapted and reused, so the site works with a practical, homely form of craftsmanship rather than a streamlined industrial environment. No details are mentioned about malting, fermentation time, the distillation apparatus, or capacity, but it is clear that both brewing and distilling take place on site, and that the production is closely tied to the premises that visitors can experience.
Maturation and cask types
There is documentation that the distillate is stored on casks in the storage building, but not which cask types are used. The most important aspect of the maturation is therefore the storage building itself as the framework for the maturation and the local, hands-on approach, where the distillate is allowed to develop on casks in the building’s own surroundings.
Whiskies
The site’s official range, as described on the page, covers a wide variety of craft beers, distillates, Nyurundum and Hammargårda drinks, as well as Odyssé liqueurs. For someone interested in whisky, it is especially the distillery and the distillate that are relevant, because they show that the house works with spirit production as part of the whole. The text does not promise a classic whisky program, but it shows a production location where distillate and maturation are already part of the identity, and where the visit is also about food, the shop, and local way of life.

Philosophy and craft
The site’s philosophy is down-to-earth and practical: you take what you have, and you use it. Premises and furnishings are adapted and reused, and the business is carried by family and childhood friends with roots in Njurunda. The same way of thinking is reflected in how the place invites guests in: craft, food, shop, and production are brought together in one everyday life rather than separated into specialized departments.
Sustainability
Premises and interior are reused and adapted.
The use of organic berry and fruit juice is mentioned in connection with Hammargårda drinks.
