History

Distillerie Bertrand was founded in Uberach in 1874 and is an artisanal distillery. On its 150th anniversary, the distillery highlights some of the most notable secrets from its house through a new Eaux-de-vie Héritage series. The Héritage series brings together traditional eau-de-vie with exceptional reserves, and the recipes are carefully selected to capture the essence of the distillery. The series revives iconic and local fruits and preserves the Bertrand method, which transmits knowledge and creates new delicate and powerful aromas. Best enjoyed on its own for finesse, in cocktails, or in baked goods.

Production

Distillerie Bertrand uses a Holstein copper column still. Distillation methods vary:

  • Eaux-de-vie Héritage are distilled exclusively by maceration and distillation.

  • Eaux-de-vie from various fruits (France, EU) are often distilled traditionally—in one or two passes.

  • Specifically for their organic range, a palette of seven organic eaux-de-vie is described.

  • Uberach Whisky d’Alsace is based on organic barley (bio malted barley mash) from the Rhine basin and the Alsace terroir, and is traditionally distilled in two runs in a Holstein copper alambic. The casks used for Uberach have previously been used for vin doux, and the subsequent whisky maturation thus yields multiple terroirs.
