History
Origin
- The Bushmills® Irish Whiskey era begins in the Bushmills district in Ireland. According to history, the original distillery was struck by a fire, and in 1885 it was rebuilt and reborn as The Old Bushmills Distillery.
Highlights in history
-
In 1989 (or 1985 according to the page) Bushmills was honoured with a gold medal at Paris Expo for its whiskey and innovation.
-
For a century, during the Prohibition period, Irish whiskey faced a difficult time, but Bushmills maintained its connection to tradition and continued production.
-
In 2021 a philosophy was established: No Compromise No Conformity, and its approach to staying true to its unique Irish single malt tradition.
-
Today, a new era for Irish single malt is being marked with an evolved portfolio and a focus on sustainability and innovation. Since 2023, the Causeway Distillery has opened, powered by green energy, and two new single malt expressions have been added to the core portfolio: a 25-year-old and a 30-year-old.
Present and philosophy
- Bushmills has a long tradition of pursuing uniqueness and quality without compromising its approach to distillation and maturation. This approach is reflected in both the older and newer expressions, and in their emphasis on craftsmanship and the people behind the bottle: Master Distiller Colum Egan and Master Blender Alex Thomas.
Description of production and experience
- Despite changes over the years, Bushmills continues to expand its portfolio and invest in both products and visitor experiences. Their site also highlights scheduling visits and the experience around the distillery.
Summary
- Bushmills presents itself as a historic and innovative whiskey producer, combining the heritage of a venerable distillery with modern sustainability and premium finish variants, including The Rare Casks and Private Reserve lines, as well as a range of core expressions and the newly opened Causeway Distillery.
