History
Killowen Distillery is a craft Irish single pot still distillery based in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland. According to the site, Killowen describes itself as Passionate, Transparent Distillate from the Mourne Mountains. From our old Mourne mountain home, Killowen is part of a new batch of distillers helping Ireland earn its place among the most awarded spirits in modern distillation.
Production
Killowen uses timeless, historical—and at times time-consuming—production processes that make their spirit unique and aim to evoke a similar style to historical Irish whiskeys. Their two handcrafted pot stills, Christoir (1000 liters) and Broc (800 liters), are flame-fired and their condensers are worm-tub. According to the site, the old still-form, size, flame heat and worm-tub condensation help to create a traditional spirit with a contemporary twist.
