Wharf Distillery Summary
History
Wharf Distillery was founded in 2017 by Laurence, who previously worked as a cartographer and discovered his passion for cider production. The distillery is located in the old market town of Towcester in South Northamptonshire, and is one of England's smallest whisky distilleries.
Production
Wharf Distillery is the only 'grain to glass' distillery in Northamptonshire, which means they ferment raw ingredients to create a base spirit. They use handcrafted Portuguese copper alembic pot stills for the production of their spirits.
Whisky Products
Wharf Distillery offers a range of whiskies, including:
-
Cattle Creep: First release, aged in 55L Madeira casks for 3 years.
-
Solstice: A part of their whisky range.
-
Equinox: Single Malt Whisky, priced from £10.00 to £85.00.
-
Fyr Drenc: A range of grain spirits, including:
-
Fyr Drenc | Beech Smoked: £6.00 – £45.00.
-
Fyr Drenc | Original: £6.00 – £45.00.
Tasting Notes
The whiskies from Wharf Distillery are not chill-filtered, which can result in natural sediment. They offer a range of flavor profiles, including an Islay-style beech-smoked expression and a whisky finished in chestnut casks.
