History
Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery is behind Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky and has its identity in Yorkshire. The company highlights the concept of Yorkshire's Farm – our farm, our barley, our distillation equipment, and our spirits. Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky is produced in Yorkshire with 100% homegrown barley.
Production / Manufacturing
Emphasis is placed on field-to-bottle processes: 100% homegrown barley, grown regeneratively on the farm, and water from the Chalk aquifer beneath the farm. The whisky is built around the pot still and a field-to-bottle aesthetic that emphasizes that the whisky is not only made in Yorkshire, but also made from Yorkshire.
Products / Whisky Series
Filey Bay Core Range was launched as new in autumn 2025 and is described as a more complex and fuller type than previous versions. The products include:
-
Moscatel Sherry Cask: citrus, honey, milk chocolate, roasted nuts and apricot.
-
STR Red Wine Cask: soft and malty with notes of crackers, marzipan, boiled sweets and red fruits.
-
Flagship: light, creamy and fruity with flavors of honey, vanilla, citrus and caramel.
On-page texts also mention First Release and Second Release as previous releases in the Flagship range, where First Release was matured in ex-bourbon and Second Release continued the heritage with similar notes.
Visits / Experiences
Distillery Tours give the opportunity to see the stillhouse and learn about the field-to-bottle process. The tours also include a tasting at the end, and there is a Driver’s Dram option with the purchase of a ticket. There is also a Pot Still Coffee Shop on site, selling locally produced products and coffee. Distillery Sessions with live music are held six times a year. Group lunches and meeting rooms are offered as private events, and there is a Tasting Room with space for 12 people.
Philosophy
The philosophy is based on field-to-bottle, 100% homegrown barley and water from the Chalk aquifer. The barley is grown regeneratively, and there is collaboration with local producers. The distillery aesthetic is described as traditional with its own approach – respect for tradition but done in its own way.
