Hochatown Distilling Company
About the Distillery
Hochatown Distilling Company is located in Hochatown in southeastern Oklahoma and was established in 2015. The distillery has from the start operated under the mash-to-bottle principle, draws on water from the Mt. Fork River, and has a clear local grounding in a moonshine tradition. Visitors can book guided tours and tastings, which take place in a speakeasy behind the gift shop.
History
The company was formed in 2015 by four partners who brought complementary expertise: a chemical engineer, a chemist with many years of experience in food and analytical chemistry, a partner with a background in real estate development and construction, and an experienced distiller with a family history in moonshining. Product development led them to start filling their first bourbon barrels in mid-2016. After aging their own spirit, their straight bourbon was released in the spring of 2019. From the start they have maintained a requirement to only release bourbon that they have produced themselves from mash to bottle.
Raw Materials and Production
Hochatown prioritizes control over the entire production chain: mashing, aging, and bottling are performed as internal processes. The distillery’s setup draws on the partners' technical and practical expertise, and water from the Mt. Fork River is noted as a significant local raw material. In 2016 they began building stock by filling their first barrels, which served as the foundation for later releases. There are no details available about distillation techniques, still count, or fermentation parameters on the available pages.
Maturation and Barrel Types
Aging is central to the company’s strategy: they began filling bourbon barrels in mid-2016 to build stock for maturation. The first commercially released straight bourbon came in 2019 after several years of barrel aging. There are no public details about which barrels or barrel treatments are used.
Whiskeys
The range is centered around bourbon and is presented under names such as Small Batch, Small Batch Select, Bottled In Bond, and Single Barrel, as well as a straight bourbon released in 2019. The website also shows other spirits and collaboration products under separate categories, but the distillery’s core identity is built around its own bourbons produced and bottled by the company itself.

Philosophy and Craft
Hochatown’s stated approach is to ensure quality by controlling the entire value chain from mashing to bottling. They have decided to only sell and release spirits that they have produced themselves, and they highlight the local sourcing of raw materials and the partners’ technical backgrounds as part of their craft.
