History
Ägräs Distillery is a Danish-Norwegian-Finnish-inspired craft brewery located in Fiskars Ruukki Village, in an old knife factory. The name Ägräs stems from Finnish mythology, where Ägräs is the god of fertility and harvest, and the name underscores the connection to nature and the land. Founded in 2015, production began the following year, which points to a historical foundation and a focus on cultural heritage. The center of Tislaamets is in Western Uusimaa in Fiskars, where nature, raw materials and old mining and artisanal traditions meet to form the basis for Ägräs' story and products.
Production / Manufacturing
Tislaamolivet is ISO-certified and takes place in a historic environment with a focus on transparency, local engagement and sustainability, supported by the ISO 14001 standard. The production is housed under the same roof as Fiskars Panimo and Noita Winery, enabling a circular economy: residual masses from Noita’s white wine production are first used to flavour beer, and the remaining mass around distillation is distilled into pontikka. The roof of the production building is equipped with solar panels, which in the summer months supply a large portion of electricity consumption.
In terms of sourcing, emphasis is placed on using top-quality raw materials, with parts purchased locally, and nature-inspired spices such as wild herbs and berries give the products their unique character. Overview and efficiency are ensured by close collaboration with local producers and a strong sustainability philosophy. The production also focuses on minimizing waste through recycling and reuse throughout the facility.
Marttaleena Ruohomaan serves as the head distiller with a professional team responsible for product production. Emphasis is placed on speed and professionalism throughout the manufacturing process.
Products / Whisky Series
Ägräs is best known for its flavors and raw materials, where the pristine nature of the environment and the aromas of the forest play a major role. The product range includes lonkero (long drink), gin, akvavit and whisky. Seasonal and limited editions are produced, and there are plans to start production of domestic wine / core-grains whisky. Under Marttaleena's leadership, they have initiated production of domestically produced Jyväviski (grain whisky), and the first products are expected to be available in 2027. At present there are no concrete whisky products listed for sale yet, but there is an explicit focus on whisky as part of the future portfolio.
Lonkero offerings are popular and available in flavors such as nutmeg and lemon (aquavit-based), as well as gindriven lonkero with carrot and ginger. In spring 2025, two new flavors were launched: pear-lonkero and raspberry-lonkero.
Visits / Experiences
Ägräs emphasizes transparency and experiences by offering guided tours and tastings that give guests insight into the heart of the distillery and the brand's philosophy. In the accompanying shop, beverages (up to 8%) and soft gift packages are offered. Visitors can also experience a full tour of the production and learn about the principles behind the products.
For restaurant customers and retailers, Ägräs products can be ordered via the Winetto service, and sales also take place through supermarkets, Alko stores and online. There is also the possibility to contact the sales department at info@brukett.fi.
Philosophy
Ägräs Distillery focuses on the purity of nature and its free connection to the Finnish forest, and places a high value on environmental consciousness, local ingredients and the preservation of cultural heritage. Transparency, local engagement and sustainability are central values, and the ISO 14001 certification underlines the commitment to responsible production and environmental protection. The circular approach to production, its own roof and solar panels, demonstrates a modern and sustainable approach to craft distilling with deep cultural roots.
