Cooperstown Distillery

Overview of the Distillery

Cooperstown Distillery is located in Cooperstown, New York, and is positioned as Otsego County's local distillery with a focus on handcrafted spirits. The distillery combines production with two Beverage Exchange spaces in Cooperstown and Saratoga Springs, where visitors can taste, buy and enjoy cocktails based on their own releases.

History

Cooperstown Distillery established itself as a local player with a community-focused mission and retail operation through its Beverage Exchange spaces. In October 2019, the distillery marked its launch event, and since then the company has participated in larger regional events, including the Saratoga Race Course in 2023. The products have gained industry recognition: Cooperstown Select American Blended Whiskey received a gold medal in June 2023, and Cooperstown Select Straight American Single Malt Whiskey won gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in February 2024. The distillery has expanded distribution and announced availability in new markets, for example Korea in November 2024, and has published signature and elite editions in collaboration with notable names.

Raw Materials and Production

The distillery produces several American spirit types using ingredients sourced from New York State. For their Barry Larkin Straight Bourbon they use a proprietary four-grain mash consisting of 65% corn and 35% oats, rye and barley. This and other bottles are made in small batches, and the tours at 11 Railroad Avenue include a barrel tasting and a tasting flight, which ties production closely to the storytelling in the tasting room. Production highlights locally sourced New York grains as a central element.

Aging and Barrel Types

For their straight bourbon releases, new charred oak barrels are used for aging. Several bottles are produced as small-batch releases, and barrel tastings are included in the tours, highlighting the role of barrel aging in product development.

Whiskeys

The range is marketed, among other names, under Cooperstown Select and includes Straight Bourbon, American Single Malt, and Blended Whiskey. Barry Larkin Elite Edition is a concrete small-batch straight bourbon example with a documented four-grain mash and aging in new charred oak barrels. Other named releases and signature series appear in the distillery's press and blog materials.
