The Family Jones Distillery

Overview of the Distillery

The Family Jones Distillery is located in Colorado and produces spirits with a grain-to-glass approach. The distillery works closely with local family farms and a nearby malt house to control the process from field to bottle. With slow, patient barrel aging and a focus on clean ingredients, they present both clean distillates, high-proof ready-to-pour cocktails, and blendable base spirits.

History

The distillery has built its profile around close partnerships with local farmers and a clear grain-to-glass philosophy. Head Distiller Rob Masters, active in the industry since 2007 and co-founder of the Colorado Distillers Guild, leads production and technical decisions. Root Shoot Malting in Loveland provides local malts and is located near the distillery, while Jones Farms Organics converted to organic farming in 2005 and contributes Ryman Rye. The partnerships are personal relationships, where the farms grow using regenerative principles, providing a traceable raw material base and financial incentives for soil protection.

Ingredients and Production

The raw materials consist of local grain varieties: corn, rye, wheat and malted barley, as well as Ryman Rye from Jones Farms. Malting needs are met in collaboration with Root Shoot Malting. The production includes mashing, controlled fermentation with particular attention to timing and double distillation in pot stills, where the Head Distiller's cut determines which fractions mature further. The Jones House line uses pure Colorado spring water and is produced without glycerin, citric acid, or added sugar. Automatic Jones is a line of high-proof, ready-to-serve cocktails, while Original Jones represents 100% local grains in artisanal distillates.

Aging and Barrel Types

The whiskies undergo slow, patient barrel aging; the company emphasizes slow, controlled aging as a central part of the process. There are no specifications on barrel types or previous contents in the barrels used in the available descriptions, but barrel aging is highlighted as a deliberate choice to let the character of the raw materials develop.

Whiskies

The range is organized into three main lines: Original Jones (100% Colorado grains, from family farms), Automatic Jones (high-proof ready-to-pour cocktails) and Jones House (clean, blendable base spirits made with Colorado spring water and without added stabilizers or sweeteners). Named products in the communications include Annika Jones Vodka, Juniper Jones Gin, Atticus Jones Rye and Ella Jones Bourbon, which shows that the range spans from gin and vodka to rye and bourbon.

The distillery offers 'The Family Jones Experience' on selected Saturdays at 2:30 PM in their Denver Spirit House and tasting room. The experience is a curated behind-the-scenes introduction to their boutique stillhouse and includes a tasting flight, popcorn, and a discount on bottle purchases. The event is not a full tour of the production facility, requires a reservation, and carries a per-participant fee.

Philosophy and Craft

The company practices a grain-to-glass approach with emphasis on traceability, partnerships for regenerative farming practices, and clean ingredients. There is a focus on avoiding artificial additives and recognizing the people and hands contributing throughout the value chain.
