History
Moylan's Distilling began production in 2004 at Foundry Wharf in Petaluma, California. From its early beginnings, the company has expanded its range and today exists both as a production site for its own brands and as an offering to other producers through still rental and bulk production. Over the years, Moylan's products have been recognized in competitions and have earned multiple medals for whisky, brandy, grappa, and vodka. The facility is designed to cover the entire value chain: from raw material handling to distillation, bottling, and distribution.
Raw Materials and Production
Production at Moylan's takes place in a complete, on-site facility that houses raw material handling, distillation, and bottling. The distillery states that they employ traditional distillation techniques combined with modern scientific methods to ensure consistency and quality. In addition to their own brands, Moylan's also offers still rental and bulk filling for other producers. The range shows that they work with several types of spirits: American single-malt, cask-strength variants, rye, bourbon, as well as grappa, brandy, vodka and gin, which requires flexible production lines.
Maturation and Barrel Types
Moylan's uses a range of different barrel types for maturation and finishing. The website repeatedly mentions port barrels and sherry barrels as finishes for both whisky and bourbon, as well as the use of wine casks for certain editions and grappa. These choices indicate a focus on post-maturation and finishing from wine and sherry casks as a central element in the development of the range.
Whiskies
The portfolio covers a broad spectrum: American single-malt in both standard and cask-strength editions, rye whisky, cask-strength bourbon, and several fully aged variants with port or sherry finishes. In addition, brandy, grappa, vodka, gin, and specialties such as eau-de-vie and schnapps are produced. Several of the products have been highlighted in award lists, reflecting the distillery's focus on both classic and cask-finish-based editions.
