Seacrets Distilling Company
Overview of the Distillery
Seacrets Distilling Company is Ocean City’s first distillery since Prohibition and stands today as a 12,000-square-foot center for small-batch craft. With a range of rums, vodka, gin, bourbon, and American whiskey, the distillery combines traditional techniques with modern precision. The visit is both a tasting experience and a time-travel through a 1930s-inspired speakeasy universe.
History
Seacrets began life as a small, members-only tiki bar in 1988, founded by Leighton Moore. After several years as a popular beach attraction, Seacrets launched its first line of handcrafted spirits in May 2014, initially distilled by an external supplier in Rehoboth, Delaware. To bring production in-house, construction began on its own distillery with the official groundbreaking on October 26, 2015. On June 29, 2016, Seacrets Distilling Company opened its doors, marking Ocean City’s first distillery since Prohibition. Since opening, the distillery has earned national recognition with more than 50 awards, including the Maryland Rum Distillery of the Year title, and has expanded its range with both core varieties and several limited releases.
Raw Materials and Production
The distillery works in small batches and combines time-honored methods with modern precision. Seacrets produces a wide spectrum of spirits: spiced, gold and white rum, macerated flavored vodkas, handcrafted gin, as well as bourbon and American whiskey produced in-house from scratch. The macerated vodkas are made with fresh fruit such as lemon, orange, and ruby red grapefruit. The production facility is co-located with Seacrets’ entertainment complex and shows the process from “grain to bottle” on guided tours, where guests gain insight into both aging and distillation processes.
Maturation and Barrel Types
Seacrets employs various aging and finish methods in selected releases. For example, there is a limited bourbon release finished in cognac casks, and product names like Double Barrel hint at the use of multiple cask maturations for certain rum variants. The distillery continually experiments with limited releases and finish solutions to expand its range.
Whiskeys
The portfolio includes core varieties such as spiced rum, white and coconut rum, handcrafted vodka and gin, as well as bourbon and American whiskey. Alongside the core range, limited releases are regularly launched, including bourbon finished in cognac casks, Distiller’s Select Gold Rum, and seasonal variants such as Pumpkin Spiced Rum and Honey Bee Whiskey. The small-batch approach means that some releases are only available in limited quantities.

Whiskeys: Style and Flavor Profile
Seacrets’ products span multiple flavor directions. Several of their flavored vodkas are citrus-forward with lemon, orange, and grapefruit, the rum line contains tropical notes like coconut and passion fruit, and the spiced variants draw on spice profiles — for example pumpkin spice and Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Spiced Rum. These directions recur across both the core range and limited releases.
Visit the Distillery
The public can visit the distillery on guided tours in a 12,000-square-foot facility. The tour lasts about an hour; guests clock in as Seacrets employees, follow the entire process from raw materials to bottle, and finish in the speakeasy tasting room, where you can sample three selected spirits. After the tour, you can shop at Seacrets Distilling Company Mercantile. It is recommended to book the tour in advance.
Philosophy and Craft
Seacrets places emphasis on craft in small batches, natural ingredients, and the use of fresh fruits for flavor variants. The production philosophy combines time-honored techniques with modern precision, and the distillery produces bourbon and American whiskey in-house from scratch to ensure control over the entire process.
