Om Flying-serien
”Flying” is Juul’s own series of particularly fine single cask whisky and rum.
Many strange and fun things, projects and ideas have been born in the old shop on Værnedamsvej — and the Flying series was certainly one of the odder ones.
The series was bottled until the mid-2000s and the bottles are today sought-after collector’s items because of the quality of the whisky and the little works of art that adorn the labels. The plain truth is that the whisky market was much more liberal and accessible 20 years ago.
We were often offered casks from Scottish trading partners and among these there were always some that showed a higher quality than other casks. When such a special cask revealed itself, we were over the moon and therefore quickly decided to put “wings” on these particularly good casks as a badge of honour.
We researched the distillery’s history and if there was a fun story from there, the expression “Flying” was attached. For example, the factory where the iconic Walker’s Shortbread is baked sits right next to Aberlour Distillery. Therefore we of course had to call a cask from here “Flying Shortbread”.
The rules around bottling and labeling Scotch single malt outside Scotland, including what could be written on the labels, were tightened in 2012. The “Flying” concept therefore became harder to carry out and was eventually laid to rest.
Aftenens vært
Juul’s own Jakob Bunch, who helped create the series, will be the evening’s speaker and tell fun and exciting stories about the 9 whiskies we will taste. So if you want to come and hear tall tales about the whiskies and life in a wine shop many years ago, hurry to buy a ticket for a very special experience.
The tasting will be held in Danish.
Særligt for denne aften
All the whiskies we will taste are of exceptionally high quality.
As something very special we will, for example, open bottles of Ardbeg 1974, “Flying Turf”.
An original distillery bottling and one of the finest Ardbeg bottlings ever to leave the distillery on Islay. Specifically bottled for Juuls on Frederiksberg.
We knew this evening would come sooner or later and had, at the time, sufficient reserves to store a few cases of each of these historic whiskies.
It will therefore be possible to buy the bottles at a special price, but only on this particular evening.
