Warehouse Distillery is located in Newton in western North Carolina, near Boundary Street and at the city limits with Conover. It is a small, family-owned distillery that has made the local location part of its identity through Boundary Street Spirits. Here bourbon, rye whiskey, and a maple release are made, and the place is especially known for its close, craft-driven expression.
History
Warehouse Distillery was founded in November 2013 by Baillie and Ron Setzer. The two built the business up in Newton, and by June 2016 the first whisky batches had already reached the market. The name Boundary Street Spirits was chosen as a direct reference to the area at the border between Newton and Conover. The rye whiskey gave the distillery early recognition, as it won bronze at ABBI in 2018. Since then, the lineup has remained small and clearly rooted in the family and the place, and the distillery has also established itself as Catawba County’s youngest distillery.
Ingredients and production
Warehouse Distillery works with rye and corn and keeps production in small batches. The distillery uses two stills: a 500-gallon hybrid pot-column still and a 300-gallon pot-column still. This makes it possible to work flexibly with style and expression in the spirits while keeping the scale limited. Annual production is about 6,000 gallons, so this is compact production with a focus on craftsmanship and local roots. The technical setup is simple enough to fit a small distillery, but at the same time clearly intentional in choosing two different pieces of equipment.
Whiskies
The standout range is small and easy to read: Boundary Street Rye Whiskey, Boundary Street Bourbon, and Boundary Street Maple. The rye is the most prominently featured expression and has also delivered the distillery’s documented award. The bourbon anchors the house in the classic American whiskey category, while the maple release offers a sweeter and more approachable alternative. Together, the three releases show a distillery that works with a few products and a clear local identity rather than a broad catalog.
