Vintre Møller
Short about the distillery
Vintre Møller is located in an old brewery building in Vintre Møller in Lejre. The distillery traces its roots back to the watermill that has produced flour and beer since 1374, and which today is restored and converted into whiskey storage. Here, the onsite natural resource is highly valued: an artesian well 10 meters down supplies water for production and household use, and the water quality is continuously tested with no documented traces of pesticides or PFAS. At the same time, production is powered by green energy from solar and wind, and local collaborations and sourcing are prioritized.
History
Vintre Møller was founded in 1374.
1374 – The history of the watermill begins
Vintre Møller is linked to a historic watermill that has produced, among other things, flour, beer and other goods since 1374. The distillery's mill facility is one of five original watermills — and restored for whiskey storage.
Raw materials and production
The whiskey is produced with water from the distillery's artesian well and green energy from solar and wind. For Reinheart Whiskey a comprehensive process is described, where mash construction, yeast type, fermentation and distillation are carefully coordinated so that nothing is left to chance. The actual aging, however, takes a special place in the restored watermill, and particular emphasis is placed on the significance of temperature variations between summer and winter, which help the barrels impart character to the whiskey. The distillery has two 500-liter stills, Nini and Mia, which are specially made for gin and whiskey, while smaller stills are used for distilling single botanicals for, among other things, aquavit and absinthe.
Maturation and cask types
Reinheart Whiskey is matured for 6–7 years in American virgin oak casks with medium toast and heavy char. Casks are chosen to provide “the right quality” through aging in the correct environment, without external influence. The temperature differences between summer and winter are directly linked to the effect of the maturation because the old mill environment can support variation in the process. This combination of cask profile and natural seasonal changes is central to the distillery's way of describing quality.
Whiskies
Reinheart Whiskey is the distillery's documented whiskey expression, and it is available as single cask exclusives. Releases are tied to vintages and cask numbers, and they work within set frameworks for both maturing and cask types. In addition to whiskey, gin and vodka variants are also produced, but the whiskey portfolio, which is clearly specified, consists of several single casks from the Reinheart Whiskey series. The overall narrative revolves around the on-site water source, green energy supply and maturation, where the place — the restored watermill — is an active part of the process.

Philosophy and craftsmanship
Vintre Møller operates from the sustainability and ESG agenda with a focus on sustainability, biodiversity, circular economy and social responsibility. Emphasis is placed on self-sufficiency in water and power, local collaboration and sourcing, and minimizing packaging and transport to reduce CO2 emissions. In practice, this is also connected to concrete initiatives in the landscape: beehives, habitats for multiple species, letting wild nature grow alongside the crops and the creation of a pond. At the same time, quality is emphasized without compromise, also when discussing the role of maturation in the whiskey.
