History
The name Ironclad draws on the historic naval battle in 1862 and has become a central part of the site's identity. Production activities are housed in the S.W. Holt & Co. warehouse, built in 1913 by the James River. The family behind the business is clearly visible in the organization: Stephen King is the founder, Owen King serves as distiller, and Kara King handles communications. The family also runs Ironclad Inn in Fredericksburg, a building dating from around 1793 that houses a bourbon-tasting room and facilities for events.

The distillery can also host private events in several rooms, and the shop offers pickup of purchased bottles.
