Company History
- Einar's Distillery is the first distillery in the Faroe Islands and builds on Føroya Bjørs' long brewery legacy dating back to 1888.
- Origin and development: Føroya Bjør began as a brewery in Vági; it went through periods of regulatory restrictions and changes, after which the company expanded into soft drinks and modernization of the brewery.
- The business was expanded from brewery to distillery: In 2016 the first Aquavit was launched, and in October of the same year the first whisky casks began aging. Since then, Einar's Distillery has established itself as a producer of world-class strong spirits in step with local culture and climate.
- Branding and community engagement: Since 2016, the frame of a faithful Faroe Islands frame has formed the company logo; the company is active in Faroese society and continues to support and collaborate with local stakeholders.
Production Details
- Production methods: Distillation and aging take place in carefully selected casks (both Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks) and in the harsh North Atlantic climate, which gives depth and character to the whisky.
- Annual production and batching: Production is small and batch-based with limited numbers of bottles per batch (examples: Batch 18 821 bottles; Batch 19 920 bottles; Batch 20 1,035 bottles; Batch 21 751 bottles).
- Unique processes: Premier-grade casks from Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry; full cask strength at bottling (typically around 55–59.9% ABV, depending on batch); occasional releases such as Raven (slightly smoked) and Storm Petrel (balanced, full cask strength) highlight the distillery's experimental approach.
- The role of the climate: The North Atlantic climate and the changing weather in the Faroe Islands are considered crucial to the aging process and the development of rich, characterful whiskies.
